Art and Craft: Zebra

I saw an art and craft idea online which I think the children could manage to do it by themselves. Therefore, I prepared some rectangular paper, some colour papers and black paper for the stripes.

The children could choose either an orange colour paper or a pink colour paper. Then, after they received the 2 rectangular white colour paper, they have to figure out how to make it into a "z" shape on their colour paper. After that, they started to cut their black colour paper into stripes and pasted it onto their "z" shape. This will give an effect of the black and white stripes that they saw on a zebra. Once this was done, they can add in the zebra nose and draw the eyes and tail for it.

Language Activity about zebra

Today, I break down all the facts that appeared in the zebra video for the children to carry out a language activity.

Each of them will hold a piece of incomplete phrase or words. They need to read the piece of phrase or word. Then, they will need to find the other parts of the information from their friend and group them together.

Once the children had found and match their complete sentence together, they came out group by group to read out the facts and I helped them to put it up onto the manila card that I had prepared.

Zebra (part II)

After watching the video yesterday, we did some revision orally. Some of the children could get the information correct while some got it mixed up.

Therefore, we went through the facts that appeared in the video again with them.

Then, I get some of them to draw a zebra on the board.

Zebra

We had a brainstorming session for the children to share their knowledge about zebra before we watched a video about it.

Some of them could actually tell some related information about a zebra such as black and white stripes, they eat grass, they run fast etc.

Then, I showed them a short and simple video about zebra. From the video, the children could catch some facts about zebra.

Then, we had a pop quiz before we end the day.

Revision

Revision

We only did some revision on the information that we learned so far about cheetah, leopard and lion. The children continued with their lion colouring and to punch holes for their cheetah mask. At the same time, some of the children guided Aiden and Yi Ern to complete their cheetah mask today.

Worksheet - Lion

Today, I prepared a worksheet for the children to work on.

On the first part of the worksheet, the children needed to join the dots according to the sequence of number from 1-20. Most of the children could do it individually.

The second part of the worksheet, the children needed to work with me. They were given 6 words and they needed to identify the answers correctly. Most of the children could follow the instruction and understand the worksheet. After that, they coloured the picture of the lion.

More about Lions

Some of the children started to bring rubber bands for their cheetah mask. Therefore, I helped them to put it on.

Then, today, we continued with some other details and information about lions.

The children learned that there's other creatures such as spider, scorpions, giraffe, elephants etc that lives together with the lion in Savannah. The lion will hunt these animals for food. However, hyenas will hunt the lost cubs for food. Lionesses will have to watch out their cubs whenever they were left alone.

We did a pop quiz again today after reading the information so that the children could remember it better.
