Count and Read
Since the children were doing counting
these few days, with this opportunity, I brought in the words of numbers to
teach them. We had it as an activity. I have some small flash cards from “one
to ten”.
I divided the children into 3 in a group.
There were 7 groups altogether. Then each group member will pick a card without
looking at the words of numbers. By reading the cards, they needed to pick the
numbers of toys accordingly. This is to familiarize the children with the names
of the numbers instead of just knowing how to count it. We had this for 3
rounds. The children were enjoying the activity.
I had printed out a picture of a big
pumpkin for the children to colour. I guided the children to make sentences by
looking at the pumpkin picture.
Derek: The pumpkin is tasty.
Harraz: The pumpkin is sweet.
Kern Ee: The pumpkin is very hard.
Jing Heng / Chloe: This is an orange
pumpkin.
Phey Zheng: Pumpkin is so big.
Kwan Ming: The pumpkin has a lot of
seeds.
We discussed about which sentences to use
for our next activity. Finally, the children agreed with the following
sentences:
1)
This is a pumpkin.
2)
The pumpkin is sweet.
3)
The pumpkin has a lot of seeds.
I gave the pumpkin picture for the
children to colour. I shall prepare the sentences for the children to carry out
the sentence arrangement activity next week.
