Sharing their Personal Information (Part II)

After the sharing session we did yesterday, some of the children were quite eager to share their parts as well.

After we did our revision on the vocabulary from the theme and the fire fighter song, we continued with the sharing sessions.

Today, we have Xiang Qin and Aiden to share their personal information with their fellow classmates.

School will be closed from 18th February 2015 (Wednesday) till 24th February 2015 (Tuesday) for the festive holiday - Chinese New Year. Class will be reopened on 25th February 2015 (Wednesday).

Sharing their personal information (part I)

Chinese New Year is just round the corner, the children were very excited about it. They did their visiting to the other classes this morning.

So today, we were not so much into our theme work as some of the children had already started to leave early for the day.

Therefore, I got some of them to share their personal information about themselves from their personal files. They just needed to read it out. Some needed guidance, while some could do it individually.

Today, we got Chloe and Zhi Yi to start off with.

Fireman Song & Worksheet

I found a song online about fire fighter which is quite easy for the children to learn. Therefore, today, we learn the song.

Song: I Am a Fireman (tune: I'm a little teapot)
I am a fireman dressed in red,
With my fire hat on my head.
I can drive the fire truck, fight fire too.
And help make things safe for you.

The phrase "to put out the fire" always appears in books that I share with the children. I put a blank after the word "put" (to put______ the fire) for the children to fill in the word correctly. Most of them said "water". Finally, Li Chiun gave the correct answer - out.

I prepared a worksheet for the children to rearrange the words and colour. The phrase that they needed to rearrange is - Let's put out the fire! 
I have cut out the words in putting them in five different bowls. The children needed to search for the words and place them in correct order. Most of the children complete the task while a few of them needed guidance.

Art and Craft: Fire Fighter Helmet (Part III)

The helmet looked plain. Therefore, I printed out the fire fighter logo and prepared some bright yellow paper for the children to continue with the art work of the helmet.

I also demonstrated how to cut it and how to paste it onto the helmet. This helped the children to visualise the outcome of it. It does help. The children could do it accordingly.

After most of the children had done with it, they started to wear the helmet and go around the classroom to be a fire fighter putting out the fire. They are so cute!

Art and Craft: Fire Fighter Helmet (Part II)

Today, we continued with the art and craft that we had half done yesterday.

The children needed to cut the paper plate to form a hat shape. I demonstrated how to do it and used that to measure the head of the children in order to make sure that it could fit in. Then each of them cut by following the lines that I have drawn on their paper plate. Most of the children could do it easily. Wow, their cutting skill has improved a lot.

Art and Craft: Fire Fighter Helmet

I got some paper plate which can be made into a fire fighter helmet. The children were quite excited about it. The children agreed that the fire fighter helmet would be red in colour. Therefore, I prepared some red water colour for them.

Before we start, we went through a book about the job of a fire fighter. It is in Mandarin, we just briefly browse through the book together.

Then, I got the children to colour their paper plate in red. I thought it's quite easy, however, for some children, it was not an easy task. It took them quite a while to complete it.

Due to lack of time, the children only managed to complete the painting part, we shall continue it on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, 10th February 2015, there will be a charity bazaar by the school for raising funds for the flood victims in East Malaysia at 4:30pm. Therefore, there will be no class and no blog update for Tuesday.

Video Sharing – Barney – You can be Anything (Part II)

Today, we continued with Zi Yue’s VCD on occupations. This part of the video introduces occupations such as astronauts, circus performers and rock stars.

The children also sang along with those songs that they know such as Twinkle, twinkle little star and so on. Only that, the children started to question about the rock stars. They might not actually understand what a rock star does. Some even said that the rock star’s hairstyle and clothes looked weird. The rock star wore a weird colour wig.

We completed the VCD and could be returned to Zi Yue.

Video Sharing - Barney - You can be Anything! (Part I)

Zi Yue brought us a VCD. It's Barney - You can be anything! This VCD introduces some occupations through songs and dancing. The children could follow some of the songs in it as well.

Basically, we only managed to cover librarian, fire fighter, vet, the mail carrier and farmer. We didn't get to complete the VCD. We might find another time to finish off the VCD and returned it to Zi Yue.

Note: Tomorrow is Thaipusam. It's a public holiday. Therefore, there's no blog update for 3rd February, 2015 (Tuesday).

Book Sharing - Fire Drill

When I mentioned about fire drill in the class, the children don't seems to understand what it is. Therefore, I shared a book about fire drill.

Book Sharing - Dinofours - It's Fire Drill Day! by Steve Metzger
Mrs Dee, the school teacher, told the class that there will be a fire drill during their activity time. Mrs Dee also explained what the children should do during a fire drill. Everyone is excited about it. However, Albert seems to be very nervous about the loud noise of the fire drill alarm and and started to make all sorts of noisy sounds that irritates the class.

Mrs Dee had to talk to Albert about the important of the fire drill and Albert finally understand. He stopped making all those noises and participated the fire drill with the rest of the classmates.

We shall learn more about fire drills and as well as fire fighter in our next week lesson.
