My Classroom

This week, the children concentrated on learning the things in the classroom and also things that they bring to school such as book, eraser, ruler etc. The children started by learning the names of things and after that, they started to make simple sentences.

Once the children had familiarise with the names of things, I get them to answer questions or having short questions and answers among each other. Though they might take a while to answer me, I find that the children had started to form a habit and pattern in learning to make simple sentences.

The children also attended half an hour of phonics lessons which inclusive of tracing worksheet of alphabets throughout the week.

Parts of a House

For the remaining 5 years old, I planned to go through some simpler lessons with them especially about things around them. Therefore, I started off with "parts of the house" to get them to familiar with some simple sentences as well as knowing the surrounding.

The children get to learn some simple sentence making such as:

This is a _________. (name of furniture etc)
I see a _________ (name of furniture etc) in the ___________ (part of the house such as living room etc).
I have a ______________ (name of furniture etc) in the _________ (part of the house such as living room etc).

Besides making sentences, I also prepared a worksheet for them to place the furniture in the correct part of the house.

After this, we are moving on to "My Friends".

Note: Blog will be updated once a subtopic is done. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Discussion on a drama script

A few children came out to demonstrate their magic tricks yet not many of them were successful. However, I'm proud of their bravery of standing in front of their friends and giving the simplest explanation that they could.

Our thematic class is coming to an end tomorrow. I always wanted the children to try their best to come out with a story that they could include all the things that they have learned about in the story. I started the story for them and the children tried their best to continue it.

The story goes like this:

Long, long ago, there's a magician who wanted to play with magic. He wanted to transfer himself from box A to box B. But something went wrong. Instead of box B, he ended up into the dinosaur world. He saw 5 dinosaurs there. Suddenly, the 5 dinosaurs started to sing:

Five little dinosaurs sitting in the swamp,
The first one said, "Let's stomp, stomp, stomp."
The second one said, "It's time for lunch!"
The third one said, "Let's munch, munch, munch!"
The fourth one said, "Let's stomp some more."
The fifth one said, "Let's roar!"

As the dinosaurs were roaring and they saw the magician and started to chase after him. He quickly say his magic words again, "Magic, magic, send me to box B!"

It went wrong again. He ended up in a spaceship in space. He saw 5 astronauts there. After saying hello to each other, the 5 astronauts started to sing:

Five little astronauts sitting in space,
The first one said, "Let's drive the spaceship."
The second one said, "Let's take some pictures."
The third one said, "Let's count the planets."
The fourth one said, "Let's fly, fly, fly!"
The fifth one said, "Let's zoom!"

Magician: "Oh, no! I don't want to be in space. Magic, magic, send me to box B!"

He came back to Earth and saw a boy and a girl. He asked: "How can I go back to box B?"

The boy and girl started to sing the transport song. After singing the song, the magician said, "I don't want any car, boat, train or plane. I just want to go to box B!"

Therefore, he tried his magic words again. Finally, he came out back from box B.

After the script is out, the children wanted to act it out, therefore, I quickly sort out the numbers of children needed for each character in the story. The children were enjoying it though they were not the main character - the magician in the story. They wanted to try it again on the next day. It would be our last day tomorrow. Hopefully, the children could enjoy it to the fullest!
